The Nine Areas of Life: Finding the Balance

Everyone can love their home!

Life is more than the routine work/home/sleep cycle. Whether we realize it or not, our lives are sorted into a plethora of accountabilities; personal areas, health and family, children, relationships, creative hobbies, spiritual growth, continuing education and learning, domestic chores, holidays, crisis management, hockey or soccer games and personal recreation. This is a lot to maintain! For personal growth and optimum health one needs to find the balance.

Feng shui has a tool called the ba-gua, which divides the life areas into nine equal parts. They are arranged in a particular, logical order. Each section is assigned a shape, colour, number, body part, season, and represents a particular life area. To utilize this tool: first look at the tangible issues in your life that are weak, and then relate them to the life area assigned for that purpose. You may find an amazing coincidence!

Please refer to the ba-gua designations grid attached in order to find the corresponding life areas.

The knowledge, career and helpful-people areas are situated closest to the entrance of your home or office. They are in the location that interacts with people in your daily activities. These areas depend on relationships outside the confines of your home or office to provide fulfilment, education and help.

The family, health and children areas are situated in the center of your space. They are representative of your body and health, and extend to your offspring and heritage lines. These can be simple facts—who you are and where you are from.

The wealth, fame and relationship areas go deeper. They are very private and very personal. It is appropriate they are positioned far away from the entrance in relation to the rest of the world. This is where your personal soul and the private, delicate intimacies in life are kept.

If you’d like to ‘enhance’ a certain area of your home or office, a simple 3 step process can help.

  1. Clean and clear the area.
  2. Replace only what you need to function in that area.
  3. Bring in colours, images and shapes to support you and your goals in that area.

The desire to make a change in any area requires intention and clarity of your actions. Execute these three steps with purpose and good intentions in your life at home, and at the office. Yes, life can be more than the work/home/sleep routine, but it is up to you to find the balance.
