Take the quiz nowQ: Hi Kathryn, Feng shui is supposed to help with a good nights sleep. Which is the best direction to face the bed? Thanks.
A: This is a great question! I haven’t addressed this issue with my newsletter followers, as I’ve been focusing on business. YET, we all do need a good night’s REST.
Some feng shui practitioners use the compass school to sort out the ‘best direction’ to sleep. While this system works, I find that many families do not have a choice as to which direction to place the bed! The logic is to ‘be in command’ when sleeping, as well as when seated at your desk.
To Be In Command: have your back protected with a wall and/or headboard, a clear sight-line to the door, and ‘supports’ on either side. (end table, wall, cupboard, lamp) As a general rule: A bed needs to be far enough (3’ or more) from the doorway to stay out of the way of and surprises or fast chi coming in.

In this diagram, I explain the ‘energy’ moving through the room. You don’t want to have all this activity when trying to sleep. If you cannot move your bed into ‘command position’ there are ‘corrections’ to deal with this. The example (lower right) shows a crystal between the door and the bed to dissipate some of the energy.
In my personal space, I also have, a double door to a French balcony; I’ve place a tree outside on the balcony to block the chi-energy from swiftly moving through the room.
Another correction is shown for the bed at lower left; a mirror is strategically placed to ‘see’ the door from the bed….make sure this mirror is NOT reflecting onto you while sleeping.
I hope this helps! If you do not see your scenario in these plans, and still have a question, please let me know.
Thanks so much for writing in,
Kathryn
