The Truth About Ceiling Fans

What's wrong with sleeping under a fan?

What’s wrong with sleeping under a fan?

Placing a ceiling fan over a bed can be detrimental to your health! If you are having restless, sleepless nights, have a look UP at your ceiling.

Many ceiling fans are purchased with the logic that these items can save you money on air conditioning. True. But, are there other hidden costs?
In Feng shui, any item hanging over head is considered a no-no. Your sub-conscious is always aware of ‘something’ overhead. (This includes books, vases, knick-knacks, pots and pans, etc.)
Let’s focus on the bedroom. You are probably aware that a structural or ‘architectural detail’ can also trigger a weirdness over your bed when trying to sleep; vaulted ceilings, overhead beams, storage shelves and hanging items. Your intuition can verify this. You automatically know when to move the bed to a safer area, right? Yet, many times we don’t have a choice.
So what’s the big deal anyways?
Let me explain:
1. As soon as you add a ceiling fan over the bed, you create a hanging object.
2. If you choose a dark colour, the item automatically becomes heavier.
3. When placing a motor and electricity on this item, the item becomes a ‘fire-element’.
Your sleep may be disrupted while lying under a moving fan. You may not notice right away, but sleep deprivation with interrupted REM sleep patterns will catch up with you. Other issues may show up as nausea, irritability and agitation.
We just got back from an exciting 9 nights in Maui, where we had a large, dark colored ceiling fan over our bed, in the hotel room. It felt like the mother-of-all-ceiling-fans!
When movement of overhead blades are spinning, they cultivate yang energy; your tired body cannot rest, keeping you up all night. By turning OFF the fan you allow the quiet yin chi-energy to rest, and you can sleep.
(If you do need air circulation during the night, a quiet floor model will suffice with the lowest amount of movement.)
Please consider other options when choosing or placing a ceiling fan in your home:
~ Could you install one in the stairwell or hallway, instead of the bedroom?
~ Could you install a proper lighting fixture on the ceiling; and then, find a quiet fan to place on the floor?
~ If you are not using the ‘fan feature’ of your ceiling fan; would you consider taking off the blades and still use the light fixture? (You’ll rest better, too!)
Ceiling fans are more appropriate placed where the yang fire-energy is more present. An entrance or hallway area and porches are more appropriate. Use your intuition when designing and placing your overhead fan. A quieter colour is still suggested, unless you are planning to have this item as a focal point in the room.
If you still have issues having a good night’s sleep, there is always more feng shui detective work to do. In some cases, a brass or metal bed can be a conduit for unseen issues such as EMF’s (Electro-magnetic Fields), personal interference lines from cell phone towers and more. In the meantime, today’s lesson: Sleeping under a fire-element is not recommended.
All the best,
Kathryn

I have a few more questions (after the Home Harmony visit) about things but I’ll start off with an update. I am feeling very good and my space feels very good and fresh as well. I am loving the new layout with my desk and I just got rid of one of my chairs yesterday. The new spaces for the art feels right. I’ve decluttered the area behind my desk, and I’ve made a few beautiful little touch-ups in my bedroom to hopefully attract some more wealth! No further on the job search because I’m j… Read more
