What is Your Personal Element?

The elements in feng shui are related to properties of the earth; wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Each of these properties has its own structure, specific components, and their own personalities. Just like us, some of these elements work very well together, and sometimes not!

When you take my Personal Element Profile Quiz (PEP) you’ll probably notice a ‘dominant element’ will emerge. Hopefully, you’ll also have a little insight into the other people in your world. The goal here is to become a unique, balanced individual! Therefore, the more ‘well rounded’ you are in the Five Element Theory, the better you will be able to understand others and get along with them. check out kathrynwilking.com/resources/PEPquiz

What we can learn from each element:

  • Energy and Optimism from the wood-people
  • Confidence and Joy from the fire-people
  • Nurturing and Practical from the earth-people
  • Discipline and Perfectionism from the metal-people
  • Contemplation and Wisdom of the water-people

A Condensed Description:

The Wood Element is high energy. These are the extroverts that often work in Sales and Promotions: weddings, special events, entrepreneurs, advertising and marketing. They are the ones that come up with the amazing ideas and can motivate others to help execute the tasks.

The Fire Element is just that- on fire! This is another extroverted type that needs to stand out in a crowd. These people are the front runners to campaigns, political parties, actors/actress, musicians, and more. This individual has the spark to engage an audience and then consume other people’s attention and energy.

The Earth element is down to earth, grounded and nurturing. This type of person excels as a team player and can be a great arbitrator in disputes. They like to make sure everyone gets along. Earth people make great HR personnel. Often you will find them as caregivers, nurses, vets, school teachers, and totally in charge. Earth people care so much; they often take on too many projects.

The Metal element includes people that like to work with numbers, safety issues and can easily quote the Policy and Procedures in the company. Often employed in areas involving accuracy and discipline these people are extremely trustworthy and carry high moral standards.  You’ll often find them in accounting, legal, law enforcement and banking sectors in your day to day services.

The Water element has the ability to slow down. Often positioned as an authoritative figure, they carry words of wisdom and offer advice to whomever they see fit. Generally emerging in their senior years, water people are slower moving, pontificating and calculating the cause and effects of life. They make great philosophers and leaders in their professions.

Your personal element is a unique makeup for you. You may find you are dominant in one element at your workplace and another when you are at home with your family. You may find yourself drawn to people that are the same as you, and then choose a partner that is quite different. We need to embrace attributes from all the elements in order to lead a balanced life. Learning to get along is only one hurdle in life.  You’ll find as you grow, and learn, you can recognise these qualities in others, refer to the element cycle and see the balance.  Wouldn’t life be wonderful if we could all learn to get along?

Doing a live interview could create a sense of disconnection when I can’t see the other person. – Chatting with Kathryn however, was the exact opposite. Her interesting comments and questions had me thinking on my feet and I thoroughly enjoyed the dialogue. I love that she adds intriguing bits of feng shui wisdom that tie into the topic and open a whole new avenue of discussion. She stays true to her focus of providing Practical Solutions even when dealing with more esoteric subjects.
