What is Feng Shui?

A Brief Summary of Feng Shui

Yin and Yang: Opposites in this world

Feng Shui dates back 4,000 years ago when the early civilizations in China were choosing burial sites for their ancestors. Their quest to find the perfect resting place for all eternity involved working intimately with the heavens and the earth, and the realities of the surrounding terrain.

Although Feng Shui is not primarily a Buddhist religion, it does carry Buddhist values, ethics and philosophies into the mix.

“Live and Let Live” is a positive way to think.

While Traditional Feng Shui relies on a compass, The Black Hat School (AKA-BTB) is an amalgamation of many influences.

The BTB school of Feng Shui looks at the immediate environment and the chi (energy flow) influenced by many factors of modern life; tall buildings, freeway structures, power lines etc.

BTB Practitioners also look for the changing dynamics of chi by examining the immediate surrounding exterior landscape, conditions of nature and the roads and neighbouring structures. This extends to the actual building design and interior room shapes, angles, colours and placement of furnishings.

Within the buildings, we look at Nine Areas of your life (Ba’gua) and how the Five Elements support or weaken those areas.

Feng Shui actually starts with the activities in your neighbourhood. All the day to day activities in the city can affect your home and property. The main door to your home or business is extremely auspicious. It is referred to as the ‘mouth of chi-energy’.

Finding balance and harmony in your life requires a look at all Nine Areas of Life: Career, Family, Wealth, Health, Fame, Relationships, Creativity, Helpful Benefactors and Knowledge.

To make a change, you will need to change something in your environment.

In order to make corrections within your property, each Life Area has its own energy to consider. It is recommended that you discuss your individual needs with a qualified Feng Shui consultant.

Check out this interactive worksheet: Nine Life Areas for self-evaluation.

You can then identify areas that need the most attention.

What is a Feng Shui Cure?

A ‘cure’ is a remedy or solution of logical, reasonable intent to move or redirect the negative energy into a positive form. Often, we begin with tangible items to arrange the space, and then, move into other cures that are not tangible; they are set with intention.

Sometimes referred to as an ‘enhancement’, a ‘cure’ could also represent intention to change or redirect something that has the potential to ‘go bad’. A suggestion to use this type of reinforcement can be offered by the practitioner as insurance for the situation.

You can be proactive with Feng Shui; reinforcing areas before any crisis comes your way.

Or, you can wait until the crisis comes your way, then call me. It could take a little longer to recover with this method.

There are 9 different types of mundane cures. These are Tangible Cures that you can see and each has its own particular qualities and uses.

  1. Bright or Light Refracting objects: mirrors, crystal, lighting
  2. Sounds: wind chimes and bells
  3. Living Objects: Plants (real or man made), flowers, aquariums
  4. Moving Objects: mobiles, windmill, whirligig, fountains
  5. Heavy Object: Stones or Statues
  6. Electrically Powered Objects: air conditioner, TV
  7. Bamboo Flutes
  8. Colours: personal dress, home décor, tangible items
  9. Other: The cures are increasing and changing to address new issues

If you are uncomfortable with any cure/enhancement suggested, we can easily work together to implement another choice.
