The Cute Pink Vase

This little cutie was purchased and never put into use!

You know the habit of ‘looking’ and then right away, the ‘impulse to buy’? Of course you do!

I found this little cutie at a second-hand store and said PERFECT!  My husband was with me and asked, “What are you going to do with another vase?”

“OMG! I stated, it is PERFECT to use in a Relationship Area! Look how CUTE this vase is? It will help enhance our Relationship! Really!” He asked no other questions. (smart hubby…)

So here is the vase two years later; I found it in a cupboard with the price still marked on it and covered in dust!

What happened between how excited I was in the store, and when it ended up in the closet?

I know EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED! Let me tell you more about price tags…

Whenever you buy something and bring it home, (no matter how much of a bar-goon, great colour or whatever prompted you to buy this item) if you don’t take the price tag off and CLAIM OWNERSHIP, you’ll never get enjoyment out of the item!

This happens to many of my clients that are shopping; and then, they leave the price tags on -just in case they change their mind! Clothing is often the worst/best example for this as when we get the item home, it doesn’t ‘quite’ match the other pieces in our closet. Sometimes, people buy clothes too big (or too small) as a variable, because of other things going on in their lives….they project their thoughts into future needs and are not living in the present.

I did the SAME THING a year ago shopping with my sister-in-law. I tried on a cobalt-blue blazer that was ‘Reduced to Clear’ and thought (at that time) this would be a great colour to wear when video-recording my on-line course. Needless to say, I never did take off the price tag or wear the blazer; it ended up at the Good Will store with the sale-tag still attached.

What makes us do this?

Our brains start to take inventory when we find something a bit different than our current possessions. We rant and rave:

  • Logic: I don’t have a blouse in THIS colour!
  • Shop without a plan: I need something new to wear for spring!
  • Decide you NEED an extra; a back-up item.
  • Or perhaps, planning too far ahead.

Obviously, you can certainly buy whatever you wish. Yet, If you go shopping with a plan, you are bound to stay on track.

Just remember, to keep the ‘balance’ in a home you’ll need to bring home ONLY the things you LOVE and are going to use.

~ Be sure to embrace each new item you bring home and REMOVE the price tag. Ownership is key, and careful selection is encouraged!

In the meantime, this lovely pink vase is not going to the Good Will Store! I’m going to clean it up, place in a few flowers and finally, enjoy it fully!

Have a look around your home; see what is hanging around waiting to find another place to live.

Enjoy your journey,

Kathryn

Doing a live interview could create a sense of disconnection when I can’t see the other person. – Chatting with Kathryn however, was the exact opposite. Her interesting comments and questions had me thinking on my feet and I thoroughly enjoyed the dialogue. I love that she adds intriguing bits of feng shui wisdom that tie into the topic and open a whole new avenue of discussion. She stays true to her focus of providing Practical Solutions even when dealing with more esoteric subjects.
