Last Thursday was a bit soggy, but the rain let up after 4pm and we were still able to step into our feng shui ‘walk and talk’.
I usually lead a talk or a seminar in the safe confines of a sheltered building, but this time, the spring energy was calling me outside!
A small group of us met in a Kitsilano neighbour for a feng shui tour of a few blocks. Feng shui in a home starts before one gets in the front door. The goal was to find balance and harmony in the gardens and front yards of the homes.
When there is harmony in the front, the walkway right to the front door is positive, welcoming and can bring positive opportunities to the occupants.
Kitsilano has its unique challenges as the houses are so close together. Many of the homes on the street are so concerned with privacy issues; they have sacrificed the objective to provide a welcoming area to greet the public: friends, family, delivery people and repair services.
In feng shui, the front door is known as the ‘mouth of chi’, and when the mouth is stifled or blocked, the home and the inhabitants can be lacking in vitality and benefactors.
On our walk, we made observations about homes that were ‘well balanced’ and looked for harmony within the Five Elements: wood, fire, earth, metal and water.
Feng Shui uses a balance of space, colour and shapes, both inside and outside the house. Positive energy is important for a healthy mind, body and home.
Making objective observations can help us have a closer look at our own homes. Don’t forget the basics: clear walkways and solid house numbers can provide clarity to delivery and emergency services.
Then, look a little closer at what you need to do in order to greet the world. One needs to bring opportunities to the door, yet feel safe and protected. It can be a fine line.
Each house and it’s area is unique. If you’d like a FS Garden and Neighborhood Tour in your area, contact me in the next few weeks to discuss this. A small group can initiate great discussions, whereas, a larger group may require more time.
I can plan an interactive walk in your neighborhood!
Imagine if every house on the street encouraged balance, harmony and prosperity to the masses.
Wishing you all happy and healthy neighborhoods…
