It’s All About the Family!

A perfect example of how complicated, and excited, things can get while taking a family photo! – One of our family weddings a few years ago.

The Family: An ‘Area of Life’ I don’t usually write about.

This auspicious area has the strength to improve relationships with those close to you; affecting family, friends, relatives and coworkers (different kind of family) This is an area-of-life full of intense proportion; we should pay attention to this space!

There is SO MUCH MORE to this family area!

The Family Area also encompasses our heritage line and all the baggage it entails: familial or tribal behaviours, ancestral beliefs and habits, genes (good or bad) and social status. If this area is in clutter or turmoil, a family may experience bankruptcy, divorce, illness or death.

Diving deeper, this family area can embrace issues of poverty, servitude, addictions abuse and richness, as well as worthiness issues, family health and temperament. We respond to energy that is around us!

The Family Area is located on the left side of the house (or room, floor) at the mid point. This area, tucked between Wealth and Knowledge holds the heartbeat of Health & Energy of the house.

So, how does this affect me?

The Family Area does have the potential to set the mood for a happy, stable lifestyle or a lifetime of criticism and unhappiness in the family circles.

‘Familial actions’ are absorbed early on in life. Some families raise their children with extreme values, encouraging either a ‘reactive’ or a ‘submissive’ approach to regular daily activities. Some people are raised with extreme pessimism, while others were fed daily encouragement through rose-coloured glasses! Depending on our family, we learn which foods to eat, cook, money strategies, how to shop, attitude, coping skills and more. Ideally, the objective is to figure out the right balance!

The psychological baggage that is handed down generationally can be mind blowing! A valid reason why families sometimes disengage: because it is easier to move on than to try and change others.

With each generation, ideologies get passed down, habits and dispositions are embraced and in some cases, hard to shake off. More information about your own heritage line is easier to find within the past few years; the internet has made ‘detective work’ fun and available for all.

~ ‘Shifting’ or ‘moving energy’ in your home may require some detective work.

Some of the ‘cures’ for this area, may require looking deeper into a problem; the non-tangible cures. When you begin to revive this area, you’ll need to bring love, loyalty and respect. In fact, the Feng Shui Masters reveal that ‘family peace’ can be accomplished in this area!

If you feel you have related ‘family issues’, try to isolate any issues you have and need to address. For example: Hanging onto Grandma’s quilt when you have ‘issues with Grandma’, doesn’t help you move forwards. Pass this lovely quilt onto another sibling or cousin (without any issues) so they can also ‘enjoy’ the memory of Grandma.

This is where the tangible feng shui begins to shine; physically moving items from the home can bring peace to the situation. Bring in items that you love and enjoy the beautiful, happy life you want.

Feng shui anchors/supports for this area:

  • Place happy pictures of your family and grandparents here. They could be at home or on vacation; whatever conveys the message of happy, home, security, and love.
  • It is okay to move antiques or family heirlooms in the area, if appropriate. Make sure you know where they came from (their history) and will reside in your space with good memories and happy vibes. Everything you choose should make you feel good, and happily moving forward.
  • It is also appropriate to remove the no-so-nice tangible memories from the family area. Reframe some of the old pictures, to bring their energy into the present.
  • Displaying up-to-date pictures of your children will remind you they are growing up (or, all grown up). If your relationship with your children is strained, this reminder for you to relate to them as adults and not a child.
  • Display tall, healthy, green plants for growth and stability.
  • If you are into aromatherapy or ‘scents’ use balsam, pine, sage or orange scent to strengthen this area.

A simple plant can bring colour and life to your space.

Developing your personal strength in the Family Area will further develop your ability to be in control of your life, cope with the adversities you face, and find the balance.

This is the true definition of feng shui: manipulating the things in life in order to be in control of your environment.

Have a look into your family today. Are you in need to experience new growth and an energetic upward movement in life? There are no guarantees that your family can all be friends, but we can feel peace within knowing that we are all stable on our own path.

Bottom line: no matter what the quirks, the embarrassments, or type of partner your family is marrying into, there will always be love and adoration for our family…and use of the possessive noun; mine. – My mom, my cousin, my son-in-law, my story…
