Take the quiz nowI LOVE COLOR! Colour brings me a mood, a flavor-of-the-day, and makes me smile! I’m always on the lookout for more opportunities to share color with my readers.
I found this cute little spot in San Diego last month, a slice of Spanish Village. Someone had the idea to paint the worn out flagstone blocks with GREAT COLOR. I was able to take a few pictures before they opened for the day.
This hidden gem, inside Balboa Park, was filled with little stalls featuring unique artesian creations; what a great place to spend most of my day!
Colour is a big influence on our lives, and can be found anywhere: homes, gardens, clothing, cars, stationary and more. It is often used as a cultural expression of what is going on in each town, village, club or clan. Advertising campaigns use colour to manipulate purchases; as colour can lighten a mood and draw attention to special features. In feng shui, ‘colour cures’ are often used to enhance specific areas.
Choosing the best colours for me, and for my clients, has been part of my life.
Have you noticed that someone-somewhere decides which colours will be ‘in’ each year? It’s almost like the decorating and clothing stores all have a ‘pact’ to only order, and sell, one specific colour pallet each year.
This can be frustrating as not everyone loves the pre-selected colours. This year, the chosen colours are pastels; softer, innocent, more suited for a baby. Sadly, many merchants buy into these trends, stock up, and wonder why sales are down.
Many people desire garments with more interest or accents in their wardrobes, and don’t want to be given limitations on what to buy or wear. They already know which colours work best for them.
In North America, preferred colour choices for day-to-day clothing and décor seem rather tame. In contrast, all the bright colours come out to play for holiday destinations, and other celebrated activities.
Grey weather in the winter months can influence a quiet hibernation, but now it is SPRING! Is everyone depressed; not willing to shine?
This question has always miffed me: If there is so much choice of available colour in our lives, why do people gravitate to the ‘safe’ colours (black, white and beige) to wear on a daily basis? ~Rather than use colour for individual expression?
How can you bring colour into your world today?
All the best for a feng shui day,
Kathryn
