Practical Steps to Success #15: Expect the Unexpected

 We all have goals. We all have expectations. No matter how much we want to ‘help people’, we still have to look at the bottom line.

My friend Sonia quotes, “You can’t pay the bills with a chicken anymore.”

I took a leap-of-faith last weekend to participate in the Body, Soul and Spirit Expo in Vancouver. The booth was $800.plus taxes -and I was happy to share the expenses with another author.

The goal was to increase local awareness of my services and hopefully sell a few books.

‘Awareness of services’ meant to promote my course through the Vancouver School Board, promote the on-site consultations in homes and offices and encourage ‘fans’ to sign up for my monthly e-newsletter. (education)

The ‘reality’ is; on a gorgeous weekend in Vancouver, the attendance was low. The few attendees that stopped to talk wanted more information about feng shui and how it could help them. Not only did I sell books, fill my course and enrol people for the newsletter, I have been invited to speak at two engagements!

First, speak to a Corporate Lunch and Learn, and the other to a local Wellness Retreat. Awesome!

I could have been distracted by the low attendance, and therefore, cloud my judgement of the quantity of people coming in. But, I took the time to present myself professionally, speak respectfully to everyone and share my passions.

It is also interesting that my book ‘Practical Feng Shui for the Office’ is now on route to the London Book Expo (UK) next week! The synergy around the intended goal is expanding!    The timing is impeccable!

Expect the unexpected! If you have a gift you need to share with others, allow it to shine. Opportunities are out there! Get yourself out there and take a chance; the venues that need your services will find you!
