Take the quiz nowThe front of your house is one of the opportunities you have to articulate a grand en-trance to your home. An entrance, perfectly balanced can cultivate a steady flow of wealth and prosperity right to your front door! Imagine what can happen if you get this right!
As many of you know, I moved clear across the country last year into a cottage home (Circa 1982) and updating a few things at a time. This summer we finally decided on a new front door; which led to knocking off the porch and new steps and pathway! Yep, I just didn’t know where to stop!
Here’s the old entrance door from 1982.
Agreed, the old door was dated. While it was functional, it lacked flow, warmth and prestige. Can you see/feel the confusion in this door? It has been chopped into 5 pieces: an eclipse, rectangles, squares, an ‘X’, and a spacer.
A new door can raise the chi-energy in your home. My intention was to match the tall lines of the bay window and provide the AHH and WOW that we wanted from an en-trance! New opportunities and good vibes can enter my house every day!
Our new door provides warmth, love and light into our space! With new locks and new tiled porch, we are ecstatic! As this north corner does not provide very much sunlight, it was best to remove some of the bushes and use pea gravel to clean up the corner. I’m thrilled!
My comment on the colour ‘antique brown’: Many people ask about painting their front door a red colour; and the answer is ‘that depends’.
Painting your door a contrasting colour to the house is a great idea as this identifies the entrance and calls attention to opportunities to arrive at the front door! Red, orange and ‘hot’ colours certainly work well to state ‘look at me’, I’m over here!’
In contrast, ‘cool colours’ of blues and greens are better for a south-facing door, as ‘red’ can be too hot for opportunities to thrive.
My choice of ‘antique brown’ is for grounding, a solid formation. A darker colour connects with the darker roof…rather than having my house float away. This colour also ‘protects’ me as the next door neighbour built a humongous ‘palace’ and tends to overshadow my space. Grounding and security is cultivated through the earth colours.
Two other tips for front doors: One, a proper mat at the front door will initiate a person to stop (breathe) and wipe their feet; leaving the outside energy… outside. (Take your shoes off and leave at the door if you can.)
Lastly, posting ‘sentinels’ at the front can reinforce protection. You’ve probably seen them in your neighbourhood: two juniper trees, two cedars in pots, two light stands and even two lions! Your sentinels can be anything you like, yet, they must be heavy, permanent and placed equally on sides at the front of your door, house or driveway. (I’m still shopping for the best door mat and heavy concrete pots for my space at the driveway.)
The choices I’ve made
for my space are carefully thought out,
but may not be the solution for you!
Please read a bit further.
Note: Many Feng Shui Professionals would not have chosen this new front door.
I’ll explain:
A front door should be solid, grounded and protective. Your personal space needs to defined from the outside. Your front door should be visible from the curb with easy-to-read numbers and clearly accessible without hiding behind bushes .
While we hit most of the attributes, you’ll notice that you can almost see clearly right through the house and out to the lake!
The chi-energy can surely pass right through our house!
In defense of this ‘rule’, we are on a 495’ long lot. A full glass door ‘exposes’ your private space. My door is a long way from the road and I’m not worried about privacy or burglars. Second, I did not realize the opaque factor was so low, allowing so much light through to the lakefront. Thirdly, if I do get concerned about people peeking in my space, I can be pro-active -I can install a blind on the inside for ‘security’. And, if I’m worried about keeping chi-energy from flying out the windows, I’ll place a few ‘roadblocks’ inside to keep the opportunities and blessings in the house.
What works for me, may not work for you. Therefore, to the best of my needs, concerns and style I wish, it is perfect for me. I plan what I can to set myself up for success every-single-day.
All the best, Kathryn
