The Magic of Learning New Habits!

Image

Good or bad, many habits are subconscious and can be perceived as ‘quirks’ or ‘eccentricities’ in our personality. Others involve routine tasks, and go unnoticed. Some habits are developed by mimicking others. And others, we adapt consciously in order to fit with societal norms and work procedures:

  • Self-care when daily grooming and bathing.
  • Safety habits when cooking, driving and looking both ways before crossing the street.
  • Customs and protocols such as the habit of shaking hands.

Some habits can be consuming: addictions to narcotics, alcohol, gambling, fitness training, sex and others.  Old habits are often hard to break because the behavioural patterns we repeat become imprinted in our day to day routine. New, positive behaviours can be hard to maintain, but can become habits through repetition.

If you want to make change in your life, this is a great time of year to assess your daily routine. When you begin to learn more about Feng Shui it will become a habit to put yourself in the ‘best place possible’ in any situation! It will also become normal for you to surround yourself with the colours and the objects that work best in your environment. And, when you get into the habit of adapting Feng Shui into your lifestyle, you will magically feel in charge of your life.

Here are some habits to cultivate:

  • Sitting or working in the Command Position because you can see everything happening.
  • Clearing your entrance to encourage opportunities
  • Tidying your desk as you finish projects.
  • Keeping the garbage piles, laundry piles and garden waste under control.
  • Get a working energy flow in your home environment.
  • Looking at the bright side of things.

The process of learning new things and adjusting our brain pathways to change is hard work. Take the time today to start learning new habits for tomorrow: take a different route home from the grocery store, venture out to a fitness class in the evening, or sign up for a new hobby!

The magic comes when you realize that you’ve formed new, positive habits, and grown one step closer to a balanced lifestyle.

Kathryn, Thank you for your suggestions. And yes, I totally feel like I’ve stepped into a new life for myself — it feels amazing!

The search for the right artwork really helped, and I added an old look shelving unit yesterday; it has noticeably improved how I feel in my home. When all the new artwork is on the walls, I’ll send you pics :).
