Vision for a Good Life

Vision for a Good Life:

What works for you to stay young and productive?

As we age and move into a slower pace, many of us finally have the time to stop, slow down and reflect.

Reflecting on the past can bring warmth to heart, but for many – too much time often regurgitates past regrets and remorse. It doesn’t have to be that way!

The time between work and when the kids/grand-kids come to visit is the time to look at your life! I’ve often talked about ‘keeping busy’ and developing new skills as a lifelong goal.

In the Chinese Bagua grid, there is an auspicious area in your home for Knowledge and Self- Discovery. (Standing at the front door looking in, it is located to the near left corner of your house.) Link to Bagua

This area relates to down-to-earth activities; a great area for reading, resource materials or mediation. Supporting this area with a comfortable chair, some scent (basil, lavender or rosemary) or crystals (amethyst, smoky quartz, opal or sapphire) will help you to be more stable and grounded.

Feng Shui talks about learning and education as being one of the best ways to stay young and productive… it’s also in the change-your-luck theory! Looking forwards is SO MUCH better than looking back!

The past is in the past.

What we can do now, is look forward. Grasp the intention to be 1% better than you were yesterday; just 1%. It can be easy; start with compassion.

  • Tolerate the ramblings of a loved one for just a few minutes.
  • Look out for each other; like a good neighbour watch.
  • Start with the small stuff; wrap it up in a cloud and send it away.

While we are learning to deal with people and stuff; it may be time to learn how to let-go and have a ‘good life’. Simple Self Care seems easy, but why is it SO HARD for people to apply regularly?

The following is a great piece from a book, The Dharma of Dogs; an excerpt from JP Sears and his dog Zephyr:

Zephyr’s Advice for a Good Life:

  • A car ride with your head hanging out of the window can cure anything.
  • If you love someone, show them your belly.
  • Now is the right time for a treat.
  • It’s always ‘now’. -Two treats are better than one!
  • Sleep on your back with all four paws in the air like you just don’t care.
  • It’s okay for humans to sit on the couch too.
  • Wake up to eat breakfast before taking your morning nap.
  • A toy without a squeaker is no toy at all.
  • Help make the world a better place by chasing more tennis balls.
  • Know that the world is overwhelmingly filled with love, except for vacuum cleaners –those are inherently evil.

~ We can learn from our pets about priorities!

Self discovery is never out-dated; we grow, we change, we learn to desire different things through experience. Living and learning is just as important as well as the quieter times to reflect; relax with the knowledge that life is good …
